    Summit Entertainment announced today that The Twilight Saga: New Moon broke the midnight box office record by bringing in $26 million from 3,514 theaters last night at 12:01 a.m. The second installment of the Twilight series easily beat the $22 million midnight record previously held by Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and last year’s The Dark Knight, which made $18 million.

    Last week on 11-10-09, when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was busy breaking entertainment launch records the way The Dark Knight could only dream of, some video game called The Music Machine for a system I’ve never seen in real life (Atari 2600) was sold for the price of about 31 Prestige Editions (plus tax): $5,250.

    According to AtariAge, the game was only sold in religious bookstores, is categorized as “unbelievably rare” (the maximum 10 out of 10), and was released in the year “n/a.” Yup, it’s so rare, people don’t even know its exact birthday, kinda like a Chinese gymnast or baseball player from the Dominican Republic.     Nobody saw this one coming, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Price broke the midnight release box office record held by last summer’s blockbuster (greatest movie ever) The Dark Night. The Half-Blood Prince made over $20 million at its midnight opening, edging out The Dark Night which previously held the title at $18 million.

    Considering its Michael Phelps-style smashing of numerous records, chances are you’ve already seen The Dark Knight… more than once. And why not? The Batman Begins sequel, which follows the conflicted vigilante’s descent in Gotham’s public eye and his arch nemesis’ parallel rise atop the city’s underworld, demands multiple viewings for plenty of reasons. The most popular one, I’m sure you’ve heard by now, is the brilliant and unforgettable performance by Heath Ledger, who crawls under your skin and is sure to be Oscar-nominated at least. (more…)

    There are no extra scenes during or after the credits of The Dark Knight; however, both Heath Ledger and Conway Wickliffe (a special-effects technician who was killed while performing a car stunt for the movie) have their names honored during the credits.
