    Rockstar Games has just announced that Max Payne 3 will be released in Winter 2009 for PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Rockstar is promising “classic elements and hyper-intense action” but a new direction to the Max Payne story. “We’re starting a new chapter of Max’s life with this game,” said Sam Houser, Rockstar Games, in the company’s statement. “This is Max as we’ve never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever. We experience the downward spiral of his life after the events of Max Payne 2 and witness his last chance for salvation.”

    If you’ve seen the trailer, you’ve seen what’s really worth seeing… all two minutes of it. The stylistic action relies heavily on gratuitous slow motion and close-ups of Mark Wahlberg’s bewildered facial expressions, as if he’s constantly wondering what he’s gotten himself into. For such a dark and violent story about a troubled detective whose wife and daughter were murdered, the film is in dire need of a bloody upgrade to an R-rating. But since PG-13 equates to bigger bucks, we’re left with a Max Payne that evokes moderate pain. (more…)

    Make sure you stick around until after the credits of Max Payne. There is an extra scene after the credits that sets up a sequel. During the credits there are animations of explosions from guns being fired and glass shattering.
