  • Avatar: The Game Actually Looks Pretty Good 0 CommentsPosted by Paul Curtin on November 28, 2009 under Video Game News

It’s common knowledge that video games based on movies are always awful, and vice-versa; yet, as technology and video games sales both improve drastically, so has the quality of games based on movies. Just last January, Lord of the Rings: Conquest was released and to the shock of many who played the demo, was surprisingly good. While the game was very well-made, many still felt it wasn’t worth the $59.99 purchase price with other huge games being released around the same time such as F.E.A.R. 2, Killzone 2, Mirror’s Edge, Saints Row 2 and Street Fighter IV.

Now, one year later, James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game is set for release this Tuesday and is looking very promising and even has a similar multiplayer game style as Lord of the Rings: Conquest. But will the game be the blockbuster hit that many believe the movie will be or will it be left in the shadows of this year’s best games? With the recent releases of some of the best games ever made such as Assassin’s Creed II, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Left 4 Dead 2 and Uncharted 2; it will be hard for Avatar The Game to win over hardcore video game fans and sell copies to anybody who isn’t a fan of the movie. Hit the jump for a HD video preview of the multiplayer gameplay from Avatar The Game. (more…)

  • Rare Game Sold For $5,250 (Night Vision Goggles Not Included) 1 CommentsPosted by Vinnie Leduc on November 16, 2009 under Video Game News

Last week on 11-10-09, when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was busy breaking entertainment launch records the way The Dark Knight could only dream of, some video game called The Music Machine for a system I’ve never seen in real life (Atari 2600) was sold for the price of about 31 Prestige Editions (plus tax): $5,250.

According to AtariAge, the game was only sold in religious bookstores, is categorized as “unbelievably rare” (the maximum 10 out of 10), and was released in the year “n/a.” Yup, it’s so rare, people don’t even know its exact birthday, kinda like a Chinese gymnast or baseball player from the Dominican Republic. • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2: Extra Scene During Credits and Extra Level After 1 CommentsPosted by Paul Curtin on November 10, 2009 under PC, Playstation 3, Post-credits Extra, Scene During Credits, Video Games, Xbox 360

The credits of Modern Warfare 2 take place in a 3D museum created by Infinity Ward. The museum is filled with various exhibits displaying the main characters taking part in different important scenes from the game.

Not only is the extra scene in the museum one of the best extra scenes during credits ever, but after completion of the credits, players can actually play the museum as a level by using the mission select feature. Similar to the movie Night at the Museum, the player has the option to push a button and bring all the characters on display to life. However, there are no good guys here as all the displays will try to kill you once the button is pushed. There are three rooms full of exhibits, two of which have tons of soldiers and even dogs that can be activated by pressing the buttons.

There is also a picture after the credits with all the Task Force 141 members posing together and the writing, “TASK FORCE 141 DOOM ON YOU MR. TANGO!” on the picture and the option to Continue to Special Ops underneath.

Check out the video of the extra scene during the credits. (more…)

  • Ice T Got His Copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Did You? 0 CommentsPosted by Paul Curtin on under Video Game News

The day has finally come, the second coming of Jesu… Call of Duty: Modern Warfare! GameStop is reporting that pre-orders of Modern Warfare 2 have surpassed any other game in history. Tony Bartel, executive vice president for GameStop said this could actually be the biggest entertainment launch ever. Last night 10,000 stores around the world opened at midnight to sell MW2, resulting in more than 4.7 million copies being sold. And today the world is feeling its wrath as employees, students, even celebrities phone in sick days in order to conquer the campaign mode and/or rank up online. Hey, if Ice T is busy playing MW2, that means Coco is alone and in need of attention… if only I could… screw it, I’m going back to playing multiplayer.

It’s the sequel to one of the best selling games of all time and Amazon is holding a contest looking for the “Call of Duty-est Town in America.” Based on U.S. Census data for U.S. towns and cities with a population of 5,000 people or more, Amazon is ranking towns that have pre-ordered the game more times than any other, per capita. There are no extras during or after the credits of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves besides symbols found throughout the game used as line breaks. There are, however, some interesting “Thanks” given to other game development studios: Guerrilla Games (Killzone), Insomniac Games (Resistance), Sucker Punch (inFamous), Bungie (Halo) and Infinity Ward (Call of Duty).

Call of Duty: World at War is holding on to the #1 spot for the second week in a row after the release of its latest map pack, while Resident Evil 5 slipped and Gears of War 2 has started climbing the chart due to last weeks big patch update. I’m guessing Gears of War 2 will jump to the #3 if not #2 spot on this week’s most played list after the release of the Snowblind Map Pack today. (more…)

It’s hard to believe, but after a year and a half Halo 3 is still topping the Xbox Live most played list. I’d expect Gears of War 2 to take the number 3 spot once the multiplayer Title Update 3 patch update is released on March 24th. (more…)
