Filmed over-the-shoulder from the perspective of a news crew shadowing an LAFD unit on a seemingly routine night call, Quarantine will likely draw comparisons to Cloverfield, which means (depending on how well you handle shaky camerawork and loud noises in poorly lit areas) you’ll either love it or hate it. As Quarantine progresses and the trapped characters gradually realize that they’re being victimized by a biohazardous threat, the film takes off with some heart-stopping jumpy moments, all-too-believable conflict amongst the survivors, and enveloping tension in scenes that include the infected. It may just be my partiality for zombie flicks, but I found Quarantine to be an excellent scary alternative if you’re not feeling this Halloween season’s annual iteration of Saw.
