  • NBA JAM 2010 HD Debut Trailer 0 CommentsPosted by Paul Curtin on March 16, 2010 under Video Game News, Video Game Trailers

NBA JAM is coming back in 2010. That’s right, the classic basketball game that coined terms like “Boomshakalaka!” and “He’s on Fire!” is being revived by EA Games. Although NBA JAM was originally created by Midway, EA now owns the rights and is publishing the new NBA JAM on the Nintendo Wii.

Unfortunately, as of right now it looks like EA’s NBA JAM is going to be exclusive to the Wii. I’m sure many people, myself included, don’t own Wii’s but are excited to here that NBA JAM is finally coming back. If you’re one of those people, head over to EA’s NBA JAM Facebook fan page and let em know you want to see NBA JAM on the Xbox Live Marketplace and Playstation Network. Check out the HD trailer after the break. (more…)

  • Video of SOCOM 4 Using Sony’s New Wii-like Controls 0 CommentsPosted by Paul Curtin on March 13, 2010 under Video Game News

The big announcement by Sony at this year’s Game Developers Conference was that not only has Zipper (creator of SOCOM and MAG) been hard at work on a new SOCOM, but that it will be one of the first games to utilize Sony’s new motion control setup that is being called Playstation Move.

Move has potential and I’m glad that Sony is taking chances by having big titles use the new motion control scheme, but I’m still not impressed with the footage. While the game looks great and the motion controls look fun, the accuracy of aiming looks nowhere near as precise as using the good ol’ sticks. Fortunately, Zipper has announced that hardcore gamers can still use Sixaxis and DualShock 3 controllers.

SOCOM: US Navy SEALs 4 is set for release this fall along with Playstation Move. Hit the jump for footage of SOCOM 4 being played from GDC 2010 and the first official HQ screenshots. (more…)

  • Brink GDC 2010 HD Cinematic Trailer 0 CommentsPosted by Paul Curtin on March 12, 2010 under Video Game News

The guys over at Bethesda have been working on a new first-person shooter called Brink. They claim that Brink is going to revolutionize the FPS genre and if the game itself turns out anywhere near as awesome as their latest cinematic trailer from the 2010 Game Developers Conference, then they might be right.

Brink’s key gameplay feature is what they’re calling S.M.A.R.T. (Smooth Movement Across Random Terrain) which works similar to the free running in Mirror’s Edge. However, unlike Mirror’s Edge, Brink focuses on multiplayer and looks to feature gameplay similar to the Team Fortress series. Brink is set for release in Fall 2010. Hit the jump for the full cinematic trailer and a second video of director Paul Wedgwood explaining how the S.M.A.R.T. system works. (more…)

  • Lost Planet 2 now mixed with Gears of War? 0 CommentsPosted by Paul Curtin on January 27, 2010 under Video Game News, Video Game Trailers

What the hell is going on? Just a couple days ago it was announced that the Game of the Year Uncharted 2 was was releasing a downloadable character pack for $4.99 that would allow people to play as many of the most recognizable characters from Playstation’s biggest games in multiplayer.

Now, Capcom has released a teaser trailer that shows Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago from the Gears of War series fighting in the Lost Planet 2 universe. The trailer ends with the Gears of War logo behind the Lost Planet 2 logo. Will this be a feature that comes standard with the game, be downloadble content or online multiplayer only? Your guess is as good as mine cause this trailer has me left scratching my head and wondering why all these games are turning into next-gen Super Smash Bros. Check out the trailer after the break. • Official Mass Effect 2 HD Launch Trailer 0 CommentsPosted by Paul Curtin on January 21, 2010 under Video Game News, Video Game Trailers

If there’s one thing that recent video games like Mass Effect 2 and Uncharted 2 prove, it’s that games are becoming more and more similar to big-budget Hollywood movies. Not only are games becoming more advanced in terms of special effects, but those advances in special effects are allowing for greater character development and epic story telling that didn’t exist in video games in the past. Take a look at the official Mass Effect 2 launch trailer and the production quality that makes it on par with any big-budget movie trailer out today. (more…)

  • Halo: Reach World Premier HD Trailer 0 CommentsPosted by Paul Curtin on December 13, 2009 under Video Game News, Video Game Trailers

Halo: Reach was this year’s most anticipated world premier trailer at the Spike Video Game Awards. Set for release in 2010, Halo: Reach will be the prequel to original Halo: Combat Evolved for the Xbox and Bungie’s last title in the Halo series. The graphics look to be a huge upgrade over this year’s Halo 3: ODST; however, there is no gameplay footage as the trailer only shows pre-rendered scenes. While the graphics look great, I still can’t help but notice that the game bears a similar resemblance to Gears of War with the improved graphics, helicopters, and added armor that the Spartans are wearing. Still, Reach looks very promising and something that every Xbox owner can look forward to, unlike this years Halo 3: ODST. Click the jump for the full trailer. (more…)

One of the biggest surprises of this years Spike Video Game Awards (besides that they actually picked the right Game of the Year) was the announcement that after just releasing Batman: Arkham Asylum back in August, Rocksteady Studios has already starting working on a sequel. It was officially announced during the beginning of the show with a trailer showing a sickly Joker recovering from the events of the first game in a rundown carnival. Gotham City is also shown in the trailer with the tag-line “Arkham Has Moved.” Hit the jump for the full trailer. (more…)

With all of this year’s biggest games already released, it’s time for developers to start making announcements about what sequels we can expect in the future. In a press release today, executive producer of Dead Space, Steve Papoutsis said:

Expect plot twists that will surprise you and a huge cast of twisted, disgusting monsters that are sure to scare the daylights out of you.”

This is the first official announcement from the development team on a sequel being in the works after months of speculation and rumors. • Avatar: The Game Actually Looks Pretty Good 0 CommentsPosted by Paul Curtin on November 28, 2009 under Video Game News

It’s common knowledge that video games based on movies are always awful, and vice-versa; yet, as technology and video games sales both improve drastically, so has the quality of games based on movies. Just last January, Lord of the Rings: Conquest was released and to the shock of many who played the demo, was surprisingly good. While the game was very well-made, many still felt it wasn’t worth the $59.99 purchase price with other huge games being released around the same time such as F.E.A.R. 2, Killzone 2, Mirror’s Edge, Saints Row 2 and Street Fighter IV.

Now, one year later, James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game is set for release this Tuesday and is looking very promising and even has a similar multiplayer game style as Lord of the Rings: Conquest. But will the game be the blockbuster hit that many believe the movie will be or will it be left in the shadows of this year’s best games? With the recent releases of some of the best games ever made such as Assassin’s Creed II, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Left 4 Dead 2 and Uncharted 2; it will be hard for Avatar The Game to win over hardcore video game fans and sell copies to anybody who isn’t a fan of the movie. Hit the jump for a HD video preview of the multiplayer gameplay from Avatar The Game. (more…)

  • New Uncharted 2 FREE DLC this Thanksgiving 0 CommentsPosted by Paul Curtin on November 26, 2009 under Video Game News

I can’t figure out what Naughty Dog loves more, its fans or the holidays. After releasing Uncharted 2 only one month ago back in October, Naughty Dog has been hard at work improving the game with patches and creating new content for future releases. During the Halloween weekend, Naughty Dog gave Uncharted 2 players free skeleton skins and double XP rewards for multiplayer. Now for Thanksgiving, Naughty Dog is going above and beyond by not only giving fans free Doughnut Drake and Lazarevic skins and double XP for multiplayer, but also releasing leaderboards and a FREE multiplayer map. That’s right, I said FREE DLC, something that is rare in today’s economy. I can’t wait to see what they give out on Christmas. Hit the jump for more details and video of the new multiplayer map. • Crysis Back to the Future Mod 0 CommentsPosted by Paul Curtin on November 24, 2009 under Movie News, Video Game News

Most people have never heard of the video game Crysis, because most people will never own a computer capable of playing Crysis. Released back in 2007, Crysis is a science fiction first person shooter based in the year 2020, where an ancient alien spacecraft has been discovered by North Korea beneath the ground on an island in the East Philippines. The player takes control of a U.S. Army Special Forces unit named Nomad as the United States invades the island in an effort to stop the North Koreans from discovering the advanced technology of the aliens and potentially using it against the world.

The clear advantage that Crysis has over every other game ever made is the graphics. There’s no game that comes close to Crysis’ graphics and even top of the line gaming computers are not able to run the game on its highest settings. The power behind the Crytek Engine is insane, and to prove it, a recent mod has been released based on the popular franchise Back to the Future. The mod allows the player to drive a fully functional DeLorean that is capable of time travel when hitting 88 mph… That’s right, instant time travel in a video game. Even if you’re not a fan of video games, you have to check out this video, especially the end! You can download the full mod here and play it yourself if you already own Crysis. If not, you can still check out the video below. Hit the jump for the full video. (more…)

  • Rare Game Sold For $5,250 (Night Vision Goggles Not Included) 1 CommentsPosted by Vinnie Leduc on November 16, 2009 under Video Game News

Last week on 11-10-09, when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was busy breaking entertainment launch records the way The Dark Knight could only dream of, some video game called The Music Machine for a system I’ve never seen in real life (Atari 2600) was sold for the price of about 31 Prestige Editions (plus tax): $5,250.

According to AtariAge, the game was only sold in religious bookstores, is categorized as “unbelievably rare” (the maximum 10 out of 10), and was released in the year “n/a.” Yup, it’s so rare, people don’t even know its exact birthday, kinda like a Chinese gymnast or baseball player from the Dominican Republic.
